Don’t settle for just any Commercial Construction Company
There are lots of reasons to choose a pre-engineered steel building for your next commercial building project, but one of the best reasons is to reap all of the benefits associated with rugged, durable, long-lasting metal and a standing seam steel roof in particular.
A standing seam roof is among the most durable and maintenance-free types of any metal roof and can last over 30 years. This type of metal roofing is made up of vertical panels with two seams per panel that stand up vertically, hence the name, standing seam. Standing seam roofing provides additional energy reduction benefits and can be installed easily by crimping each adjacent seam together, sealing into one joint.
Standing seam roofing panels can be designed with various radius roof profiles, making it ideal for structures with several roof levels. One of the most significant selling points of standing seam metal roofing is the variety of choices and options for customers that go far beyond just the color of the panel to include the length, width, profile, shape, thickness, and more.
A panel profile refers to the shape and way two or more panels are seamed together. The optimal profile for a particular building will depend on the type of roof, its steepness, the environment, and a variety of other factors.
Several popular profiles include:
- Snap-Lock profiles have male and female legs that snap together and attach to the roof deck using clips that fasten underneath the panel.
- Mechanical Lock panels have roll-formed edges that line up with each other and are engaged using a hand or mechanical seamer that bends the edges and locks them together.
- Batten panels feature roll-formed legs that butt up to each other and are held together with a metal cap that goes over them.
One of the biggest benefits of standing seam metal roofing is that no fasteners are visible on the surface, which means they aren’t exposed to UV, moisture, wind, and other elements that can cause fasteners to wear or fail over time. Also, standing seam systems don’t put holes in the panels that are protecting your structure
Another significant advantage of standing seam roofing is the option to easily mount items such as solar panels, snow retention systems, swamp coolers, or other rooftop additions, without having to penetrate or make any holes in the surface of the roof. This adds considerable flexibility to the already flexible design features of pre-engineered metal buildings, enabling a wide range of highly customizable options.
